CODEX RESET GUIDE · CHECKED 27 SEP 2026
Why a public Codex reset report may not match your account
A public post can tell you that a reset was reported. It cannot read your account, confirm your remaining allowance, or promise that your own limit has reset.
There are different clocks
| What you see | What it tells you | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Public reset report | When a public source reported a reset-related event. It is context, not an account notification. | TokenReset history and the linked original post. |
| Five-hour usage window | Your plan's current short-window allowance and its displayed reset time. | Your Codex usage dashboard. |
| Weekly limit | A separate limit that may still apply even after a shorter window refreshes. | The same dashboard; in a Codex CLI session, /status shows remaining limits. |
OpenAI's Codex pricing and usage documentation says local and cloud usage share plan allowance, weekly limits may also apply, and the dashboard shows current limits and reset times. Message counts in examples are estimates, not fixed promises.
Check your own reset in four steps
- Open your usage dashboard. Use the same ChatGPT account and workspace you use with Codex.
- Read each limit separately. Note the remaining allowance and reset time for the short window and the weekly window, where shown.
- Compare the timestamps. TokenReset shows public reports in UTC. Convert your dashboard's displayed time carefully before comparing; a public post is not the start time of your personal window.
- Plan from your dashboard value. If you want to pace remaining weekly usage, enter your own percentage and reset time in our free weekly planner. It estimates pace; it does not connect to your account or increase your quota.
If the numbers still differ
First check the account, workspace, model, and limit window shown in your dashboard. OpenAI notes that model choice and task complexity affect usage, so two similar-looking tasks can consume different amounts. A refreshed five-hour window also does not remove a weekly limit. If the dashboard still shows a restriction, use its displayed reset time as the reference rather than a public report.
TokenReset cannot diagnose or change your account limit. We do not ask for your login, usage data, or payment details to show public reports. For ongoing public updates, you can use our free RSS feed.
